THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tuesday that Tropical Depression Domeng (Peipah) has been monitored moving slowly northwest instead of its earlier direction of west northwest.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, the weather bureau monitored Domeng at 550 kilometers east of Davao City. The tropical depression changed course to northwest, moving at five kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds at 55 kph.

Domeng is expected to be 360 kilometers east of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur today, April 9. On Thursday, it will be 230 kilometers east of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur. Then, it will be northeast of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur on Friday.

Residents within the affected zones of the tropical depression 400 kilometer diameter are advised to take safety measures as an estimated rainfall of 5 to 15 millimeters or moderate to heavy rainfall per hour is expected in the following days.

Pagasa-Davao Director Gerry Pedrico, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said that as long as "Domeng" is still in the country, the public should always take safety measures so as to prevent any major complications in their respective areas.

"We should not be lenient. Dapat pa rin tayo maging handa habang hindi pa umaalis itong bagyong Domeng," Pedrico said.

The tropical depression may make a landfall over the border between Surigao de Norte and Surigao del Sur on Thursday.

The public and all disaster risk reduction and management councils are advised to take action and await the next bulletin.
