Execom formed for Eaga confab

A LOCAL Executive Committee (Execom) was created for the 2nd Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-Eaga) and Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Business Leaders Conference and Trade Fair slated on October 23 to 26, 2014 in Davao City.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte signed Executive Order (EO) No. 19 series of 2014 last April 8, 2014 defining the committee's duties and functions.

According to the EO, the committee will "serve as the main arm of the City Government in collaborating efforts with other national and local agencies involved in the preparation and implementation of all programs and activities" of the event.

The committee was created in preparation for the BIMP-Eaga and IMT-GT Business Leaders Conference and Trade Fair as well as "to ease the performance of the duties and role of the city government".

"The city of Davao welcomes this event as an opportunity, not only for Dabawenyo, but also for residents and entrepreneurs in other cities and municipalities in Mindanao, to effectively promote investments and generate trade in their respective jurisdiction," the EO states.

The committee is chaired by the mayor himself or his duly authorized representative. Lawyer Jhopee A. Agustin, acting assistant city administrator for operations, is appointed as the vice chair.

Members of the working group are: Jesus Manuel S. Inigo, Mary Frances L. Resma, and Stephanie P. Felizco for program, invitations and reception; Rizalina N. Justol and Ermilinda L. Furog for finance; DCIPC officer-in-charge (OOIC) Ivan C. Cortez, Tourism office OIC Ma. Felisa C. Marques, City Information Office OIC Leomides R. Villareal for publicity and promotions; General Services Office OIC lawyer Jessie Marvin G. Melodias, City Environment and Natural Resources Office head Engr. Elisa P. Madrazo and City Engineering Office OIC Roland C. Reyes for physical arrangement and sanitation; and Public Safety and Command Center chief Ret. Gen. Francisco Villaroman, Davao City Police Office chief P/Supt. Vicente D. Danao, Task Force Davao Commander Col. Casiono C. Monilla, and Traffic Management Group and Traffic Management Center head P/Supt. Rhodelio V. Poliquit for security, traffic management, and transportation.

The October event at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City, will gather exhibitors from both the public and private sector from BIMP-Eaga, IMT-GT, and its partner countries and organizations in a bid to "strengthen their convergence initiatives in promoting sub-regional cooperation in trade, investment, and tourism to contribute to the region's goal of realizing the Asean Economic Community in 2015."

The main events of the fair include: a business leaders' conference on October 23, the trade fair on October 24 to 26, and the business matching sessions on October 24 to 25.
