DAVAO CITY - More than just to catch drug pushers in inner city settlements, what Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte really wants to do is round them all up and drown them.

“Kung dili lang gyud dautan, gusto nako tapukon nako sila tanan, ikarga nakog barko, dad-on tunga-tunga sa dagat tapos buslutan nako, pasagdan nako sila. Wala naman ni sila. Ang utok nila wala na (If it were not a crime, what I want to do with drug pushers is to put them all in one ship, bring the ship to the middle of the sea, sink the ship, and leave them there. These people are of no use. Their brains have already been destroyed by drugs),” he told the fire victims during the release of cash assistance last week.

Duterte told fire victims to protect their community from illegal drug peddlers who are believed to have caused the massive blaze in three barangays here.

“Protektahi ang inyong lugar kay kanang inyong gipuy-an diha inyoha na na. Protektahi inyong komunidad sa mga tao nga walay birtud sa kaayo. Kung naay silingan ninyo gashabu, ayaw ninyo pasagdi kay bisag unsaon ninyo ug tindog inyong balay muulbo gyud na ug masunog. Kung asa gyud mo dapit, ayaw ninyo pasudli ug mga tao nga walay silbi (Protect your community from evil people. If your neighbor uses shabu, do not tolerate them because no matter how you rebuild your houses, fire can still eat them up again. Don’t ever allow useless people into your community),” he said.

Duterte reiterated that at least four people who had a shabu session in Isla Verde caused the fire that affected Barangays 23-C, 22-C and 21-C last April 4. [Read story here]

These four people are believed to have already left the city.

Duterte urged the residents to immediately report anyone from their community who uses, pushes or even makes his/her house as a place for shabu pot session.

“Maayo pa hinuon itext na lang na kang CD (Send a message to the police chief),” he said, referring to Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief Senior Superintendent Vicente Danao Jr.

“Kung gusto gyud ka ug kwarta, hala itext na imong silingan nga gasuroy, gabaligya, ug gasuyop sa ilang balay. Hatagan ta mo ug P1,000 kada impormasyon. Dili mo namo hilabtan, impormasyon lang akong gusto. Nganong ingon ani? Sinugdanan sa sunog eh (If you want money, report whoever deals with illegal drugs. I will give you P1,000 per information. I need information. Why? Because this is what caused the fire),” he added.

The mayor was bristling as he continued to lambast drug pushers during the relief distribution.

Duterte is known for his hard stance against illegal drugs in the city. (Sun.Star Davao)
