DAVAO CITY - Members of the Task Group Davao Cocaine are already looking for two men who are holding the last two missing bricks of high-grade cocaine.
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said the authorities have already identified those individuals who have the cocaine. He also confirmed that these men are already outside the city.
"Huwag ninyo ng hintayin na makuha ko pa yan sa kamay ninyo kasi ang order ko pa naman [to the authorities], is shoot to kill. We considered them criminals because they're in possession of cocaine. If they choose to fight with the law enforcement agencies [that would be the end]," Duterte said.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Senior Supt. Vicente Danao said there are already 62 bricks seized and surrendered to the task group. He added two bricks weighing around two kilos have not yet returned to them.
"Mahirap nga lang hanapin [as to where these people hiding] pero we have an idea kung sinu-sino sila. The Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (Pdea) is already conducting an in-depth study kung saan talaga. I hope kung kinsa man tong nag gunit, kung na kay pamilya na ginabuhi, pangita na lain trabaho (If you have a family to provide for, then find some other source of money)," Duterte said.
Duterte also said he would rather burn the cocaine in Davao City than in other cities since the bricks were recovered here. He added that in due time the public will witness the burning of the cocaine.
The mayor also made it clear that no one from those who already returned the bricks of cocaine have received P100,000 cash, as the reward should only be given to those who can give information on the whereabouts of the individuals holding the cocaine.
"Binigyan ko ng pera for appreciation yung mga nagsauli ng cocaine but not that P100,000 cash. Kung meron ultimatum? Dili nako. Ang usapan diyan isauli lang and there will be no questions to be ask. Pero kung mahuli sa iyo, ay ibang usapan na yan," Duterte said.
When asked if the Sumifru and Maersk could be held liable about the issue, Duterte said he could not yet pass judgment as of now.
However, the mayor assured that whoever gets involved will be charged with violating Republic Act 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The authorities first recovered 24 bricks of cocaine inside a Maersk container van around 7 p.m. of March 22. Another 27 bricks were found on March 23, plus two more bricks found on March 25.
On April 1, a truck operator from Sumifru wharf surrendered a total of three bricks of high-grade cocaine at the Pdea Davao Region office, while two suspected drug pushers were arrested in a buy-bust operation last April 9 for trying to sell a total of 779.7 grams of cocaine.
On April 18, a 27-year-old man from Panabo City turned over two more bricks of cocaine to the authorities, bringing the total haul of high-grade cocaine to more or less 62 kilos with an estimated market value of at least P6 million per kilogram. (Sun.Star Davao)
