Magnitude 5.7 quake hits Davao Occidental-A A +A

A MAGNITUDE 5.7 earthquake struck Sarangani in Davao Occidental Friday afternoon, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the tremor occurred around 1:44 p.m. and was located at 31 kilometers (km) southeast of Sarangani province. The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 113 km.
It added that the intensity 4 was felt in Davao City and Mati City in Davao Oriental; intensity 3 in Bislig town in Surigao del Sur, Tagum City, and General Santos City; intensity 2 in Kidapawan City, Malita town and Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental, Kiamba and Malapatan in Sarangani; intensity 1 in Gingoog, Misamis Oriental.
Aftershocks are expected, the Phivolcs said, while no damage has been recorded during the earthquake.
The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) in Davao Region director retired Brig. Gen. Loreto Rirao, on the other hand, reminded the public to be vigilant always and take extra precautionary measures so as to avoid any untoward incidents.
