DAVAO -- Suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels torched a backhoe and detonated a landmine, injuring four civilians at Sitio Macopa, Upper Ulip in Monkayo town in Compostela Valley on Friday morning.
Army's 10th Infantry Division spokesman Captain Ernest Carolina said the wounded were identified as Felix Cudilla, Criz Palumar, Ogie Furtaleza and Gaga Mariputin.
Carolina said a mobile patrol with civilians onboard were on its way to Sitio Macopa to check the reported burning of heavy equipment by unidentified armed group when a landmine exploded. The four civilians were brought to the nearest hospital in the province, he added.
Carolina said the backhoe, owned by one Candido Silagan Balunos, was burned by unidentified armed men at Sitio Macopa around 1 a.m. The authorities believed that the NPA rebels were behind the two incidents.
He said their troops have been coordinating with the Monkayo Municipal Police Station for a pursuit operation against the NPA rebels behind the incident.
He also said that government authorities are mandated to protect those legal businesses in the area. (Sun.Star Davao)
