A CIVIC organization held last Friday its groundbreaking ceremony for a Day Care Center for residents of the Greenland Community in Barangay Cabantian in Buhangin District, Davao City.

The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by the Kiwanis Club Greater Davao-Agila Chapter President Ramon Tam Jr. at the covered court of Greenland Community Phase-II of Country Homes Subdivision around 8 a.m.

Tam said the project is worth around P400,000 and will be ready before the classes starts this June. The center can cater to 60 children.

Barangay Cabantian chief Nilo Cabiles, who is also member of the Kiwanis, thanked their president for the project. He said their resources will shoulder the honorarium for the teachers who will volunteer to teach at the center.

"Ang importante dili na kinahanglan magbaktas ug isa ka kilometro ang among mga bata diha kilid sa pangpang aron lamang maka-eskwela. Pinaagi niining donasyon sa Kiwanis Club duol na sa kamatuoran nga makab-ot sa mga kabatan-onan ang unang hugna sa edukasyon (What’s important is our pre-school children need no longer walk a long distance to school with this donation by the Kiwanis Club)," Cabiles said.

Former chief of the Traffic Management Center (TMC) retired Colonel Desiderio Cloribel, who is also member of the Kiwanis, also thanked the homeowners for their support. He said the construction of the project would be hard without their assistance.

"There are 37 of us in the [Kiwanis Club] Agila Chapter and we’re happy to say na kami tanan nag-ambag para sa mga materyales na kinahanglan ani nga project. We also have teachers who are willing to teach voluntarily for this community," Cloribel said.

Greenland Phase-II is a kilometer away from Country Homes Subdivision. The settlers that now reached to 90 families were granted rights by the local government to establish a community, which is the Greenland.
