THE City Government of Davao will once again partner with the Kadayawan sa Dabaw Foundation Inc. as its private partner for all the activities in the 2014 Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival.

Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, festival's official spokesperson, bared this to Sun.Star Davao on Thursday.

Alejandre said the Kadayawan Foundation is the lone group that joined the bidding to be the city's partner for the holding of this year's festival.

"The Kadayawan Foundation sent the City Government a proposal for this year's event," Alejandre said.

Alejandre said the 17th City Council approved under suspended rules a memorandum of agreement between the Kadayawan Foundation and the city government.

Kadayawan sa Dabaw Foundation Inc. was the long-time partner of the city for the festival before it was replaced by Duaw Dabaw Foundation during the term of former Mayor Sara Duterte.

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte signed the Executive Order No. 29, an order creating the steering committee of the 2014 Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival on June 17.

"There is a need to enlist the support and participation of the private sector in the planning and execution of festival activities in order to fully maximize the benefits that the city anticipates to enjoy," Duterte stated.

According to Alejandre, this year's theme for Kadayawan is "Kalamboan sa Kinaiyahan, Kadayawan sa Katawhan" or Nature's Flourishing, People's Well-being."

He said they have yet to know the total budget for the festival. Alejandre, however, said the city's contribution is estimated at P2.5 million.

The opening of the festival is slated on August 1 to coincide with the Indigenous Peoples' Day and is set to culminate on August 17. (ANC)
