THE major events in this year's Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival will be on August 16-17.

The City Government of Davao together with its comebacking private-partner Kadayawan sa Dabaw Foundation Inc. already lined up activities for the festival.

A total of 13 major activities lined up for this year's festival, said festival's official spokesperson Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre.

He said the one-week celebration will kick off with the Pagbukas or the Kadayawan Celebratory Opening Ceremony on August 12 at 5 p.m. at Rizal and Quezon Parks.

There will also be Sayaw Mindanaw or Mindanao Indigenous-Based Dance Festival and Tunog Mindanao or World Music Festival on August 13, Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Davao City will also commemorate Kadayawan sa Kagikan or Indigenous People's Celebration on August 15.

A total of four activities highlighting IPs culture will be held on the same day-Subang Sinugdanan or Davao River Festival, Panagtagbo or Tribal Confluence Celebration, Bantawan or Tribal Performing Art Showcase and Hiyas sa Kadayawan or Search for Kadayawan Gem.

The Kadayawan sa Kadalanan or Street Celebration will be held on August 16, Saturday, with activities Indak-indak sa Kadalanan or Street Dancing, Indigay sa Tugtog or IIK Musical Showdown and Yugyugan or Disco Street Party.

On August 17, Sunday, the city will hold Kadayawan sa Katanaman or Flora Celebration-pamulak or floral float parade, Gasa sa Abut or Gift of Harvest and Pasalamat or Closing Festivity.

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte signed the Executive Order No. 29, an order creating the steering committee of the 2014 Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival on June 17.

This year's theme for Kadayawan is "Kalamboan sa Kinaiyahan: Kadayawan sa Katawhan" or Nature's Flourishing: People's Well-being."

Alejandare said the Kadayawan sa Dabaw Foundation Inc. will be responsible to look for sponsors this year.

However, he said the city's contribution is estimated at P2.5 million.
