Duterte-Roxas tandem for 2016?-A A +A
Sunday, July 6, 2014
DID Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas discuss about the upcoming 2016 national elections?
Aside from the terror threat, Duterte said on Sunday that Roxas intentionally came over to Davao City on June 29 for another purpose.
Duterte, however, refused to elaborate what they talked about.
"Amo lang nang duha. Dili pud babae kay tua man sa Manila si Korina (It's just between the two of us. It was not about a woman since Korina was in Manila)," Duterte jested.
"But he was here aside from the meeting that we had," he added.
The local chief executive also dismissed that there is a "Duterte-Roxas tandem" working in progress.
"The equation does not work. There is no chemistry because I simply do not want to be president or become vice president. I simply want to be mayor of Davao City and retire when the time comes," he said.
He said Roxas does not need any publicity just to become famous and prepare for the 2016 presidential elections.
"Dili na niya na kinahanglan. Ang pangalang Roxas humot gyud na (He doesn't need that. The Roxas name is popular)," he said.
Roxas was born on May 13, 1957, in Manila, Philippines to Judy Araneta of Bago City, Negros Occidental and Gerardo Roxas (1924-1982) of Capiz. His father was a former senator (1963–1972), and the only son of Manuel Roxas, the first president of the Third Philippine Republic, and Trinidad de Leon.
"Dili man na muiingon nga once you lost in an election, mubaho ka na. So Mar, pwede pa. Maningkamot lang siya. He can still be the president of this Republic. So with Binay and everybody else (I doesn't mean that once you lost in an election that you are done. Mar can still run and just persevere)," he said.
Senator Franklin Drilon earlier announced that Roxas will be the Liberal Party's standard-bearer in the 2016 presidential election.
Roxas was the vice-presidential bet of the Liberal Party in 2013, but lost to Vice-President Jejomar Binay of the United Nationalist Alliance political party. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
