A MAN is facing charges before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Davao City after he was arrested for allegedly hacking a man dead and trying to hurt another in Barangay Sibulan, Toril, Davao City on June 28.
Facing murder and attempted murder charges is Nicky Egos Ento. He was charged after hacking Basinde Aquel dead and trying to hurt Dennis Abong Pepito.
Prosecutor Panfilo Lovitos affirmed the charges against Ento based on the complaint of the slain victim's elder sister Sailyn.
Sailyn stated in her affidavit that the suspect, the victims and some of their friends and relatives were having a drinking session outside her house around 6:30 p.m.
While she was preparing dinner, she heard a commotion outside her house. Upon checking, she saw her brother lying bloodied on the ground.
Witnesses told her that Ento tried to hack Pepito first but the latter managed to evade, prompting the suspect to turn his attention to Basinde, whom he hit on his head with the use of a scythe.
Basinde was first taken to the St. John Hospital im Toril but was later transferred to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) where he later died.
Ento, meanwhile, turned himself over to Barangay Sibulan captain Rosita Abalayan around 12 p.m. He was then endorsed to the Toril police station.
The case is currently with the RTC Office of the Clerk of Court and it is set to be raffled off to a court branch on Thursday.
