Eastmincon denies casualty in Bukidnon clash with rebels-A A +A

THE Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) belied the claim of the New People's Army (NPA) that nine government troops were killed while two others were wounded in an encounter with the rebels Thursday afternoon in Quezon town, Bukidnon.
Allan Juanito, spokesperson for NPA North Central Mindanao Regional Command, in a statement said the encounter happened around 2:10 p.m.
The casualties on the government side were from the Army's 68th Infantry Battalion.
But Eastmincom public information office head Captain Alberto Caber, in a text message, denied this, saying no one died from their troops except that there were four soldiers who were wounded.
Caber added that the troops in the encounter were from the Army's 103rd Division Reconnaissance Company and not from the 68th Infantry Battalion.
He also said the clash took place around 4:20 p.m. at Sitio Lucat in Barangay Cawayan in Quezon town.
"We only have four wounded soldiers not two as claimed by the NPA. Civilians nearby also reported that there were wounded on the rebels side as they withdrew to escape," Caber said, adding that the troops were on security patrol in the area when they encountered around 30 rebels.
Caber said the military and police in Quezon town are already conducting a pursuit operation against the NPA rebels.
