A CITY Councilor said Tuesday he wants more National Food Authority (NFA) retailing stores in the city to meet the total demand for rice.

Councilor Danny Dayanghirang, in his privilege speech during the regular session, said the public is purchasing NFA rice due to the increase in commercial rice prices.

NFA rice costs P27 to P32 per kilo.

He, however, said he observed that there are only few NFA authorized stores in the market and in barangays.

He said there are only 66 NFA authorized retailing stores in the city, thus, he said he wants the NFA-Davao City to add 44 stores to meet the total demand for NFA rice, which is cheaper than commercial rice.

Speaking during the privilege hour of the session yesterday, NFA-Davao City manager Virgilio Alarta said they have no control over the increasing price of commercial rice.

Alerta, however, assured that there will be no rice shortage in the city like what had happened in 2012.
