Duterte: I'm too old

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte continued to parry off the growing call for him to seek the presidency in 2016, citing several reasons, the printable of which is that he's too old.

Duterte said, "Had God wanted me to be president He would have offered the opportunity when I was younger."

The mayor will already be 71 by May 2016.

Aside from saying that the job of a President will be difficult for a person who is not young and fit enough, he also pointed out that the problem of Philippine governance is corrupted to the core, no one can fix it and survive.

"Siguro, kung maaayos ito nasa mga 2040 na, beyond our time na," he said, or some 25 years of deliberate reforms in describing how long it will take to fix the present government.

The mayor has consistently been saying he does not like the presidency and that he is contented to just be the mayor of the city and retire to a peaceful life.

But egged to take on the challenge, he rebutted by saying that the first thing he will do if he ever becomes president is install a revolutionary government and abolish Congress.

Instead of turning off people, the masses picked up on his dare and the call for him to run has been gathering momentum especially in the provinces.

In his "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa" television program last August 3, he added to the list of to-do's in order to fix government the privatization of the Bureau of Customs, if its personnel continue with their corrupt ways, and also close down government corporations like the Social Security System and the Government Service Insurance System for gross ineptitude.

He stressed, however, that he is not outlining any presidential plan by saying these.

"It's not a political platform. It's a vision for my country," he said in his television program.
