THE controversy over the "hipon" comment of comedian Ramon Bautista during a big rave party in the city during Kadayawan took a more ridiculous turn as a new website has been put up -- hiponcity.com -- that when you click will direct you to the official Davao City government site.

City Information Technology Center webmaster Jose Barber said they immediately acted on the "illegal activity", and worked on blocking the new site from mirroring the official website.

City Information Office assistant head Joseph Lawrence Garcia, meanwhile, said they will seek legal actions against the site.

"We are now tracing the source and the public address of the website," Barber told Sun.Star Davao Tuesday.

Based on Barber's initial check Tuesday, it showed that the website was uploaded on August 20, a day after comedian Ramon Bautista was declared as persona non grata (unwelcome person) by the 17th City Council for publicly saying there are many "hipon" (shrimps) in the city.

It also showed that the website uses www.domain.com as its public host.
As of press time, the owner of the website also last updated it Monday at 6:15 a.m.

Garcia said the CIO will report the illegal activity to the public host so it would block the domain.

Should the website still exist, Garcia said the city will file complaints to proper office.

"The fact nga gigastohan gyud siyag $10, naa jud intent to malign. With the hipon controversy, malicious iyang intent," Garcia said.

In line with this, Garcia said he is hoping that the "hipon controversy" will stop.

Barber said the www.davaocity.gov.ph was created in 2010 during the term of former Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

"Hindi namin siya pwede iblock kasi open site siya, meaning kahit sino pwedeng maka visit sa site natin. May mga links din tayo na nagcoconnect sa iba't ibang website ng national agencies," he said.

The CIO supplies the data/materials for the website, while the CITC is in charge of the maintenance.
