A MAN who is allegedly a member of a notorious crime syndicate was killed in a shootout with the authorities while three others were arrested on Sunday in a raid at Sitio Mabuhay in Barangay Cabaywa, Asuncion town in Davao del Norte.
Eastern Mindanao Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) director Senior Superintendent Joel Pernito identified the fatality as Eliseo Jimenez, alias Agui, 30, a right hand of Tukay (leader of the Sultan Group), and a resident of Sitio Mabuhay in Cabaywa.
Pernito said the Sultan Group has been engaged in drug trafficking, gun running and guns/goons for hire operating in Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley.
He added that Jimenez was tracked down after a month-long surveillance of the unit.
Operatives also arrested Leah Peñaloga, Ejesson Llante and Arturo Tandog Jr., who were at Jimenez's place during the raid, CIDG deputy director Edilberto Leonardo said. He added that the three were believed to be clients of the Sultan Group.
"Jimenez, who is among the subject of the search warrant, resisted the arrest and engaged in a firefight with authorities. His true identity was confirmed when the mother-in-law ConchitaCandelario claimed that the dead body is Eliseo Jimenez and not a certain Tukay," Leonardo said.
As to the three suspects who were arrested in the raid, Leonardo added that they are now under investigation.
"They were subjected to drug tests. After the drug tests, in case na mag positive silasa tests, they will be charged for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002," he said.
The CIDG will also file charges for illegal possession of firearms and the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 against one Tukay, who is still at large, Pernito said. He added that this would add to Tukay's criminal record, which he will face once he gets arrested.
Pernito said the operation stemmed following the four search warrants issued by Judge Virginia Tejano-Ang, of the Regional Trial Court (RTC), Tagum City dated August 31. He also thanked the members of the Davao del Norte Provincial Police Office (DNPPO) for their assistance.
The operatives seized four sachets of suspected shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia, one long M16 rifle, and one caliber.38 revolver from the house of Jimenez. The operation was witnessed by representatives from Department of Justice and Barangay Cabaywa government officials.
Arrested suspects are temporarily detained at Asuncion Municipal Police Station while the confiscated items will be submitted to Anti-Cyber Crime Unit for digital forensic examination.
