Duterte says opposition can do worse

Monday, March 20, 2017

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is undeterred with the first impeachment complaint filed against him saying that his detractors “can do worse.”

“They can do their worst, and I'll do better in my performance as a worker in the government. This is a democracy,” Duterte said in a brief media press conference held before his departure to Myanmar for a state visit Sunday afternoon, March 19.

Duterte said that filing impeachment and charges against him in the International Criminal Court (ICC) will not hamper his task.

“I cannot be stopped by the ICC or the impeachment it is part of my destiny,” he said.

Duterte also said he relies on destiny on the length of his time as president.

“Maybe God will give me two years, 6 months, one year and a half to be President of this country, fine basta but let it not be said na hindi ko binigay ang ipinangako ko,” Duterte said.

He added he will deliver his promises even if it will cost his life and presidency.

The president said the fight against drugs, corruption, and criminality will continue if people will not understand the role of the government, adding that the drive will become brutal if people will not understand the role of the government.

“Follow the law and we'll be alright, do not use drugs and you will live tomorrow,” he said.

Duterte said he is sure that improvement will be eventually seen on peace and order.

“There will be improvement because we are really focused on it, there will be improvement in the law and order, maybe not now but later,” he said.

He also said even poor runners of drugs will not be exempt from his directives.
