THE Department of Agriculture (DA) will make an exploratory trip to the contested Benham Rise to explore its untapped marine sanctuaries that could become possible fishing grounds for fisher folks.
Agriculture secretary Emmanuel Piñol said Saturday, April 8, that there is no such thing as Holy Week break for them because from April 13 to April 16, they will be sailing to Benham Rise using the research vessel of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to personally discover marine resources in the area.
“I actually inform the president that DA and BFAR will make an exploratory trip to the Benham Rise,” he said.
He will be accompanied by his BFAR undersecretary and his staff as they will be bringing a Philippine flag and the flag of DA-BFAR.
“We will explore the area and we will look into what could be done to make this as our new fishing grounds,” he said.
Aside from that, they will also be distributing a 38-footer fishing boats equipped with twin engine to the fisher folks of Infanta, Quezon and Aurora to provide them with livelihood and promote inclusive growth to the residents as part of their thrust to alleviate poverty.
