A CUSTOMS policeman from a prominent family in Davao City was arrested in a drug bust launched by the San Pedro police along Mamay Road in Barangay Angliongto, Davao City on Monday.
The suspect was identified as Jose Yumang Batu Jr., 43, a special agent 1 of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and a resident of 629 Gladiola Street, Barangay Buhangin Proper in Davao City.
Chief Inspector Ramil Macarampat, head of the San Pedro Police Station, said they have filed charges against the suspect before the city prosecution office on Saturday for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Macarampat said it was just incidental that they caught Batu as the subject of the bust was the 16-year-old girl, who was rescued by the Women and Children’s Protection Desk of the San Pedro Police during the operation.
According to the police, the minor was selling illegal drugs to a police who posed as a buyer while Batu was waiting inside a vehicle.
A sachet of crystal meth worth P10,000 and a rolled dried marijuana leaves was confiscated from the suspect's possession, the police report said.
"Makonsidera nato nga high value target (HVT) ning suspek (We can consider the suspect as a high value target)," Macarampat said.
The suspect is currently detained at the San Pedro Police Station while the minor was endorsed to the Quick Response Team for Children’s Concern.
