Nutrition officer urges calorie labels on food

Tuesday, July 11, 2017

THE Davao regional office of National Nutrition Council (NNC) is set to launch the Nutrition Month and Nutri-Carenderia project Tuesday, July 11, at Sutherland Global Services PhilippinesInc., Jacinto Extension Street, Davao City.

In previous press forum, NNC-Davao Program coordinator Maria Teresa Ungson said that this is their effort to strengthen their advocacy campaign to further educate the public on the importance of a healthy diet.

The concept of their program, which aims to promote healthy lifestyle among the public, is that they would encourage food restaurants and local eateries to put nutrition labels and calorie counts on the food they serve to give knowledge and consciousness among the public about the food they take.

This year’s Nutrition month celebration will be centered on a theme “Healthy diet, gawing habit-FOR LIFE!”

She added that their office wanted to address the pressing health problems that the populace is facing right now ranging from kids to adult such as obesity and overweight to create a healthier environment.

At present, the NNC have already partnered with 10 hubs in the city to initiate the display of calorie counts in the foods they serve to their customers.
