Nurse killed in Davao City fire

A NURSE was killed when he was trapped in his room during a fire on Thursday dawn, August 10, at Barangay 8-A Poblacion, Davao City.

The San Pedro Police identified the victim as Holden Rainer Gayta, 33, single, an assistant quality director in a hospital along Malvar Street, Barangay 7-A, Poblacion, Davao City.

Based on the initial investigation of the Bangoy Fire Station, the fire started at the house of one Ruben Macorol Maceren, 50.

The fire started from the room of one of Maceren's children, at the second floor of the three-story house.

It was learned that the fire ignited when a dysfunctional electric fan was plugged to an electrical outlet.

It was also believed that the victim was asleep at the third floor and was not able to come out when the fire broke out.

At 4:40 a.m., the fire bureau declared fire out and only then that the victim was seen and was later declared dead by Dr. Miguel Villanueva of Davao Doctors Hospital.

There were a total of four houses that were razed and one house was partially damaged with damages estimated at around P600,000. (Jeepy P. Compio)
