Davao City police get 24 new firearms

Sunday, August 13, 2017

THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) acquired a total of 24 high-powered firearms from the Philippine National Police (PNP) which is seen to further capacitate the police officers in combating criminality and terrorism as the Kadayawan Festival 2017 nears.

DCPO director Alexander Tagum said that the new M16 rifles were given by PNP chief Ronald dela Rosa himself Saturday morning intended for the Special Weapon and Tactics (Swat) officers to be used during their operations.

Tagum thanked Dela Rosa for supporting them, boosting their morale to do their duty in protecting the communities against threats.

"It will have a tremendous impact on the morale and effectiveness of our SWAT Teams knowing that they were fully supported by their leaders," Tagum said.

He added, "If a mere medal can move people to fight to their death, how much more if they were recognized by our CPNP as an effective deterrent against all forms of threat and equipped with the best equipment to fight our enemies?"

These firearms are separate from the high-powered firearms to be funded by the City Government of Davao.

Earlier, a total of 48 security officers graduated after completing their 15-day Swat Advance course.

Meanwhile, Tagum said that DCPO is all set to secure the whole city during the Kadayawan celebration and vowed that the law enforcers are on top of the situation.
