309 recorded NPA violence-related incidents in 8 months

THE Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) has recorded a total of 309 New People's Army (NPA)-initiated violent incidents from January to September 4 this year.

In his presentation Eastmincom deputy commander Brigadier General Gilbert Gapay said on Monday, September 11, that insurgents continue with their illegal operations and atrocities conducted in different communities in the areas of the Eastern Mindanao.

The record included harassment with 116; arson, 56; liquidation, 29; kidnapping, 24; nuisance harassment, 17; shooting, 17; improvised explosive device attack, 10; ambush, 10; and confiscation, seven.

The communist rebels, Gapay said, also conducted disarming, seven; attacks, six; sniping, three; ransack, two; detention, two; fired upon, two; roadblock/confiscation, one; flag down, one; roadblock/kidnapping, one; ransack/roadblock, one; and hijacking, one.

Compostela Valley Province, which has a large number of NPA members, experienced 51 incidents while Davao City had 35; Bukidnon, 34; Davao Oriental, 30; Agusan del Sur, 26; and Surigao del Sur, 21.

North Cotabato, meanwhile, had 19 incidents with NPA, along with Agusan del Norte with 17; Misamis Oriental, 15; Surigao del Norte, 14; Davao del Norte, 13; Sarangani Province, 11; Davao del Sur, nine; South Cotabato, seven; Sultan Kudarat, two; and Davao Occidental, two.

Based on the data he presented, in 2011, they recorded a total of 304 atrocities while 2012 with 257; 2013, 327; 2014, 340; 2015, 338; and 2016 with 292.

This year, the NPA has also extracted a total of P1.437 billion in their 87 extortion activities from different business establishments such as construction, agro-industrial, transportation and mining firms from January to September 4 this year.
