THE Indigent Children Educational Assistance Inc. (ICEAI), a non-profit organization that helps send inmates' children to school, will hold a fund-raising concert on September 30 at CAP Grand Auditorium.
ICEAI founder and president Conchita Suarez said they conducted the fund-raising activity to accommodate more children whose parents are serving time in jail.
To date, they have sponsored a total of 106 children of inmates.
There are a total of 300 children who are waiting to be enrolled this coming school year.
She added the ICEAI performing arts will present “A Night on Broadway” featuring the Songs of Mamma Mia for the benefit of the children of the women inmates of Davao City Jail.
The matinee performance will start at 4 p.m. and gala performance at 7 p.m.
Initially, they started with 35 indigent children where they assist them in their studies at Maa Elementary School like providing school uniforms, school supplies and project requirements. Eventually, the number of children grew.
She said they have already helped around 2,000 children who graduated from high school. They have also provided skills training where they invite instructors from Technical Education Skills and Development Authority to teach the children vocational courses to be used in their livelihood.
Suarez said that last year, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio recognized their organization and endorsed them to help the indigent children of inmates in Maa Women and Annex jail.
"We are fund-raising by putting up Broadway musical shows and performers who volunteer. We also trained musical performers to perform musical shows since 2007 to raise funds for the children to help the needs of the children for their studies," she said.
She invited the public to join and watch the show to gather more funds for the children.
