Vice mayors’ league expresses support for Paolo Duterte

Tuesday, September 26, 2017

THE Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines (VLMP) expressed support for Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte after his name was dragged into the alleged smuggling in the Bureau of Customs following the illegal shipment of multi-billion-peso illegal drugs from China.

Under Resolution 9, approved by VMLP National President Vice Mayor Donnabel Joy Mejia of Magsaysay, Davao del Sur and signed by the regional chairperson representing all vice mayors in country, they aired their support for the presidential son amid the controversies he is facing.

"As fellow vice mayors, we know Paolo Duterte to be an upright and an exemplar public servant that in this trying times of his life as a public servant and as a presidential son, he needs our support as his colleagues in the local government service," the resolution read.

“Therefore, be it resolved that we, the regional chairperson of the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines representing all the 1,635 vice mayors all over the country, express our support for the Honorable Vice Mayor of Davao City Paolo Duterte,” it added.

The younger Duterte and his brother-in-law Mans Carpio were present during the Senate blue ribbon committee's hearing after being tagged by Mark Taguba to the drug smuggling issue but the latter cleared them.

Earlier, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV accused Duterte and Carpio of having bank accounts containing hundreds of millions of pesos. He also said Duterte is allegedly a member of a "triad" based on the appearance of a "dragon-like" tattoo on his back based on foreign intelligence.

"The nation has seen how the honorable Vice Mayor of Davao City has been subjected to unfair and unsupported accusations of illegal acts from certain personalities," the resolution said.

It also said that, "For a civil and democratic people like the Philippines, rule of law is paramount and respect for dignity is as supreme that all citizens should uphold and likewise abhor and condemn any actions of witch-hunting for no other reason except to tramp on the honor of any individual."
