DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has ordered the creation of a team tasked to design a program for the implementation of responsible parenthood and reproductive health law within the city.
On Tuesday, Duterte-Carpio signed executive order No. 39 Series of 39 which mandated the city implementation team for the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health (RPRH) law of 2012.
The law recognizes the right of Filipinos to decide freely and responsibly on their desired number of spacing and children, within the context of responsible parenthood and informed choice, and to access needed reproductive health care information and services.
The city mayor also said the order aims to accelerate, attain and sustain "zero unmet needs for modern family planning" which was also provided under the Executive Order 12, Series of 2017 issued by President Rodrigo Duterte.
The team will be composed of the city mayor as chair and city health officer as co-chairperson and will have City Population Office, City Health Office as secretariat.
Members of the team will be representatives from Department of Health, Department of Education, Department of Interior and Local Government, Civil Society Organizations/Non-government Organizations (Brokenshire Women's Center), Liga ng mga Barangay, City Council Committee on health, City Social Services and Development Center, and the Sangguniang Kabataan (Youth Council) representative.
Part of the mandate of the team is to ensure the integration of the RPRH law in the functions and activities of the agencies/organizations that they represent; to coordinate with agencies tasked to implement with the RPRH law and monitor its implementation at the city level; and provide City Government of Davao with regular reports on the status of the implementation of the RPRH law at the city level and come up with recommendations to address gaps if there be any.
The funding of the team will be taken from the City Health Office subject to existing government accounting and auditing rules and regulations.
