Davao mayor visits cop's wake

Thursday, November 16, 2017

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio visited the wake of the slain policeman on Wednesday afternoon, November 15, at Angel Funeral Homes, Calinan.

The cop was killed by unidentified assailants who are allegedly members of the communist group.

The city government of Davao posted on its Facebook page a photo of the mayor at the funeral to pay respect to Police Officer (PO3) Wilfredo Bansag Garol Jr. and she also talked to his wife.

Duterte-Carpio condoled with the family and expressed her sympathy for the loss.

Garol is an intelligence officer of Baguio Police Station and was shot by unidentified gunmen last Monday, November 12, at Sitio Luman, Barangay New Valencia, Davao City.

The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body, resulting to his instantaneous death.

He had just dropped his teacher-wife in school. Afterwards while traversing the road, hitchhikers asked if they could take a ride but when they reached the destination he was shot and the suspects took his XRM black motorcycle and issued firearms.

Earlier, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao regional director Police Chief Superintendent confirmed that based on their intelligence report, the perpetrators are members of the New People's Army. They are the hitmen assigned to neutralize security officers.

Police are still conducting investigation to determine the identity of the suspects and to give justice for his death.
