Staunch child rights advocate passes away

Monday, February 12, 2018

ONE of the founders of Tambayan Center for Children's Rights Inc. died last Saturday night after losing her battle with cancer.

Editha Ong Ante Casiple will be cremated on Tuesday, February 13, as she had wished. She left behind her husband Alex and four children.

Casiple was one of three women who organized Tambayan Center in 1996 and served as its executive director from 2006 to 2015.

Tambayan serves street and abused girls and has been at the forefront of reproductive health awareness.

It has become a literal "tambayan" (hangout) for these girls who are provided not just with a safe place to spend their time in but also with their basic hygiene needs and food, aside from the various activities they are involved in to harness their young talents.

Casiple is well remembered for her work with girls in gangs in downtown Davao City, encouraging them to return to school and pursue their dreams despite all odds.
