AN ARMY sergeant shot himself inside his bunkhouse at Sitio Ugis, Barangay Eden, Toril district, Davao City on Tuesday night.
The victim was identified as Sgt. Amante Gonzales, 41, member of the Charlie Company of the Army's 84th Infantry Battalion, native of Calinawan, Sto. Tomas, Isabela Province.
Gonzales was immediately brought by his comrades, lead by the detachment commander, 1Lt. Victor Perez Jr., to the Camp Panacan Station Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Capt. Mario Angelo Tejano, attending physician, said the victim died of hemorrhagic shock and loss of blood.
Perez said they heard a gunshot at around 7 p.m. and saw the victim steeped in his own blood with a gaping hole in his stomach. The body was brought to a local funeral parlor in Panabo City.
An Elisco M16 armalite rifle with magazine was found at the scene.
According to his friends, the victim appeared depressed for unknown reasons just before he took his own life. (Alger Dura)
