Plastic mgmt project to cut waste disposal by 20%

THE City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) said Monday that it is planning to partner with Holcim Philippines Inc. in plastic management project, a move that will reduce the garbage disposal by 10 to 20 percent.

In an interview, Cenro officer-in-charge (OIC) Eliza Madrazo said if the project pushes through, this will free up more space at the city's seven-hectare sanitary landfill in New Carmen, Tugbok District.

15 ‘Mutya’ finalists named

THE 15 finalists who will compete for the crown as this year's Mutya ng Dabaw are now preparing for the grand coronation night slated on March 14 at the Davao City Recreation Center (DCRC).

From 30 candidates, the number was pared down by half during the pre-pageant night held at The Atrium of the newly-opened Felcris Centrale on Saturday.

367 dengue cases from January to February

THE Davao City Health Office (CHO) recorded a total of 367 confirmed dengue cases from January to February, this year.

Based on the data from CHO, the number decreased by 433 cases as compared to 800 cases recorded in the same period last year. No deaths recorded so far.

Anti-hazing bill passes 1st reading in Congress

Don Bosco belies robbery in school

AN OFFICIAL of the Don Bosco Training Center in Mati City, Davao Oriental denied reports that a robbery incident happened inside the school during the staging of Davao Region Athletic Association in the city last week.

Delegates from Panabo City earlier reported they were robbed of 17 cellular phones, P8,000 cash and a bag full of clothing while they were on their sleep last February 21.

Dabawenyos blame Purisima for botched Mamasapano op

DABAWENYOS put the blame on resigned Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Alan Purisima from among those involved in the botched Mamasapano operation, according to a survey conducted by the University of Mindanao-Institute of Popular Opinion (UM-IPO).

Steag plant back online

THE 105 MW Unit 2 of Steag State Power Inc. (SPI)'s 210 MW coal-fired power plant in Misamis Oriental gets back online after it was placed under preventive maintenance shutdown last February 19.

SPI Power Plant manager Dr. Carsten Evers said in an emailed statement that the unit was officially synchronized to the Mindanao grid around 6 a.m. Monday.

Davao LGUs to receive weather tracking equipment

THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will formally turn over 56 hydro meteorological sensors (HMS) to local government units in Davao Region on Friday.

TSI vows action on residents' complaint

THE Therma South Inc. (TSI) confirmed on Monday that they received a complaint from residents regarding a foul smell emanating from the construction site of its power plant at the boundary of Binugao, Toril in Davao City and Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

Police: No whitewash on probe vs cop

A FORMER broadcaster who claimed to be victim of the bank manager charged with qualified theft and for issuing bouncing checks in 2013 said the accused was also engaged in a money lending business where she allegedly used account holders' funds as capital.

Complainant Vincent Virtucio, a former television broadcaster based in Davao City, told Sun.Star Davao in an interview through Facebook chat that the respondent Jo-Ann Fandiño allegedly enticed him to lend his money in 2011 as she was allegedly engaged in a lending business.

6 in Christmas Day killing face charges

Demolition members ‘stole’ confiscated items

150MW coal plant online by March
