Mayor to call for Ebola gab

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said Friday he plans to call for a summit that will discuss extensively the Ebola virus.

He said he also wants to know whether the city's hospitals are prepared for Ebola.

SPMC isolation bldg can only accommodate 4 patients

THE Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), Mindanao's only government hospital that could accommodate patients with highly infectious diseases like Ebola virus, could only service four patients at a time.

Dr. Ricardo Audan, SPMC's chief of clinics, said their isolation building has very limited capacity. He added that whenever a patient with suspected highly infectious illness is brought to them, they do rigorous screening before anyone is admitted.

Man killed in shootout

A 40-YEAR-OLD man, who ran amok, was killed in a shootout with police authorities in Barangay 31-D in Quezon Boulevard, Davao City on Thursday evening.

The suspect was identified as Noel Parangan Luma, alias Tata Luma, a resident of Purok 6-B in Barangay 31-D. He was shot by PO1 Vicente Alderite Jr. of the Sta. Ana Police Station.

Customs execs hearing rescheduled

NPA leader with P4.8M on his head falls

DAVAO CITY -- A high-ranking leader of the New People's Army (NPA) wanted for several crimes was arrested at a joint military-police checkpoint in Barangay Mankilam road in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Thursday.

Eastern Mindanao Command's (Eastmincom) public information officer Captain Alberto Caber identified the rebel leader as Dominiciano Daungcay Muya, alias Marco and Atoy, a member of the NPA's Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) executive committee, with P4.8-million cash reward for his arrest based on Department of the Interior and Local Government's Joint Order 14-2012.

Army orders probe on killing of 2 civilians

EASTERN Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) chief Lt. General Aurelio B. Baladad ordered the Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division to look into the death of two civilians who were allegedly killed by troops belonging to 66th Infantry Battalion in New Bataan town in Compostela Valley.

The victims were identified as Lando Sabado Dangasan, 40, and his 16-year-old son Felix, both residents of Purok 7 at sitio Taytayan in Barangay Andap, New Bataan. The two were reportedly unarmed when the incident happened.

3 rebels' cadavers, 11 high-powered guns seized

THREE cadavers of the New People's Army (NPA) rebels and 11 high-powered firearms were recovered following the series of encounters between government troops and the rebels in Malita town in Davao Occidental.

Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division spokesperson Captain Ernest Carolina revealed Thursday there were two skirmishes that transpired in Malita last October 11 in the morning and another on October 14 in the afternoon.

Patients' records accessible through mobile

Businessman faces gun, drug charges

RTC denies TRO request by 29 retired cops

THE Vice Executive Judge of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Davao City has denied the issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) sought by 29 pension beneficiaries who accused Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Alan Purisima and other officials of taking away their benefits.

RTC Vice Executive Judge Virginia Europa, in an order dated October 8, has denied the TRO requested by the 29 pension beneficiaries who are all represented by lawyer Mariano Alegarbes. The judge stated in the order that there is "no extreme urgency for the issuance of a seventy two-hour TRO."

Bizman nabbed for planting marijuana

NBI arrests illegal recruiter

Customs bureau chief seeks probe on dismissal

THE top official of the Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Davao who was recently dismissed from his post, called for an impartial investigation of his dismissal on Tuesday, claiming he was not given due process.

"I am saddened by the arbitrary decision of (BOC Commissioner John Sevilla) for my termination, who may be fed inaccurate information. When objective consideration of facts and when due process are junked, arrogance and abuse of authority follows, then reforms are doomed," retired Army General Ernesto Aradanas said in his official statement sent by BOC-Port of Davao public information and assistance division officer Fatima Espino.

Ban on trikes plying national highways sought

FOLLOWING the vehicular accident involving a bus and a tricycle last week, Councilor Bernard Al-ag urged the Traffic Management Center (TMC) and the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) on Tuesday to strictly prohibit tricycles-for-hire to operate along national highways.

Al-ag said tricycles still ply along national highways despite an existing ordinance prohibiting this.

2,034 animal bite cases in the city

THE regional office of the Department of Health (DOH 11) recorded a total of 2,034 animal bite cases in Davao City during the 2nd quarter of 2014.

DOH 11 senior health program officer Mary Divene Hilario said of the number, 1,561 are dog bite cases, 470 cat bite cases and three monkey bite cases.
