Coco workers to hold picket anew

THE workers of three different coconut employees based in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur who earlier staged a protest following their transfer to another coconut exporting company are set to conduct a picket anew Friday, January 23.

Based on a text advisory from the Kilusang Mayo Uno Southern Mindanao Region, the workers from B/L Investment Inc., Golden White Coco Traders and Mactan are set to conduct a picket against Franklin Baker Co. at 9 a.m. Friday.

A MAGNITUDE-5.2 earthquake jolted Davao Occidental Wednesday afternoon, state volcanologists said.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the tectonic quake was recorded 29 kilometers northeast of Sarangani at 1:20 p.m.

Ordinance appointing optometrist passed on first reading

THE City Council of Davao approved on first reading Tuesday an ordinance mandating the appointment of an optometrist to provide health care services in the city.

"Under the Republic Act 8050 of the revised optometry law of 1995 it was promoted that optometrists should be part of the health care system of any government," said Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, proponent of the ordinance speaking during the Kapehan sa Dabaw at The Annex of SM City Annex Davao.

AFTER the City Prosecutor’s Office has denied the motion filed by former chief of the Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU)-11, who was tagged in the murder of Cebuano businessman Richard Lim King, the accused has filed a separate motion before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 16 asking the Judge to resolve a previous pleading to bar the issuance of a warrant of arrest.

Respondent Superintendent Leonardo Felonia, through his legal counsel Caesar Europa, has filed a manifestation with motion to resolve the alternative motion to deny the issuance of warrant of arrest or motion for judicial determination of probable cause before the sala of RTC Branch 16 Judge Emmanuel Carpio.

THE Office of the Ombudsman-Mindanao has forwarded the criminal complaint filed against a barangay official accused of asking P200 from a constituent who wanted to process a permit in 2012 before the Regional Trial Court (RTC).

The records of the case filed against Barangay Lacson Kagawad Jose Bigcas for violation of the Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act is currently with the RTC Office of the Clerk of Court and is set to be raffled off on Thursday.

THE City Prosecutor’s Office has denied the motion filed by the former Regional Intelligence Unit chief tagged in the murder of Cebuano hotelier Richard Lim King claiming that the evidence for the defense may only be given weight in court proceedings.

Prosecutor Panfilo Lovitos, in a two-page resolution dated January 19, has denied the motion for reconsideration filed by Superintendent Leonardo Felonia who asked the City Prosecutor’s Office to reverse its resolution dated September 16 last year.

Amended internet cafe ordinance in Davao City approved

AS EXPECTED, the 17th City Council approved Tuesday on third reading the amended internet cafe ordinance.

Among the important amendments are: the number of hours that a minor be allowed access to internet; accreditation fee worth P10 per computer unit; weekly monitoring in all internet cafes; participation of barangay captains in the implementation of the policy.

Over 30,000 renew business permits

Blast hits Kabacan anew

Cenro: Marked Dacudao trees "already dead"

AN OFFICIAL of the Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) clarified Tuesday before the City Council that the 22 trees that they recommended for cutting were already not in good condition.

Cenro chief Engineer Elisa Madrazo, appearing before the City Council through Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang's invitation Tuesday, said that after their office conducted inspection and assessment of the trees along Dacudao Avenue, they found out that these 22 trees were already dead and leaning toward the railing of the drainage and must be removed for public safety.

New PUV routes in city's far-flung areas eyed

A DAVAO City Councilor plans to propose new public utility vehicle (PUV) routes in the city to cater far-flung areas.

Soldier sued for homicide

Power restored in 3 areas

THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that power has been restored in provinces affected by a blackout following the suspected bombing on one of its transmission towers in Pikit, North Cotabato on Sunday.

NGCP, in a statement circulated through text messages, announced the restoration of power in North Cotabato, Cotabato City and Maguindanao. Power in these areas is supplied by private electric companies Maguindanao Electric Cooperative Inc. (Magelco), Cotabato Electric Cooperative (Cotelco Palma) and Cotabato Light (Colight).

Free warden in 72 hours
