Arrested 'rebel leader' is NGO worker

THE New People's Army Southern Mindanao Regional Command (NPA-SMRC) belied Sunday the military claim the suspected rebel they arrested last week was a high-ranking leader of the communist group.

Dominiciano Daungcay Muya, alias Marco and Atoy, alleged member of the NPA-SMRC executive committee, with P4.8 million reward for his arrest, was arrested Thursday at a joint military and police checkpoint in Tagum City.

Police hunt trader in minor's shooting

POLICE are hunting down a trader who accidentally shot a 17-year-old boy in Dumanlas, Buhangin District in Davao City on Sunday evening.

The suspect was identified as Mike Baisa, of Buhangin. The victim is a construction worker of Manuel Guianga in Barangay Tugbok and temporarily residing in Dumanlas.

THE president of Social Watch Philippines, Inc. warned the public that the government funds, which will be declared “savings” in the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) for the 2015 budget, may be used to cause imbalance of power among the executive and legislative of bodies of the government.

Gun, drug case vs Dakudao scion raffled off Thursday

THE City Prosecution Office has recommended the filing of charges against a member of a prominent family in Davao City arrested in a raid at his residence on Km. 6, Lanang for illegal possession of firearms and marijuana cultivation last October 15.

Prosecutor Serafica Justiniani-Weis, in her resolution dated October 17, found probable cause to charge 57-year-old businessman Santiago Jose Ebro Dakudao III for violation of the RA 9165 (RA) or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

However, Duterte said that he warned the businessmen about his hesitations to pursue the project because “all reclamation projects in the Philippines are being linked to corruption.”

Former inmates complete skills training program

Phivolcs studying Cotabato fault line

SPMC isolation bldg can only accommodate 4 patients

THE Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), Mindanao's only government hospital that could accommodate patients with highly infectious diseases like Ebola virus, could only service four patients at a time.

Dr. Ricardo Audan, SPMC's chief of clinics, said their isolation building has very limited capacity. He added that whenever a patient with suspected highly infectious illness is brought to them, they do rigorous screening before anyone is admitted.

Man killed in shootout

A 40-YEAR-OLD man, who ran amok, was killed in a shootout with police authorities in Barangay 31-D in Quezon Boulevard, Davao City on Thursday evening.

The suspect was identified as Noel Parangan Luma, alias Tata Luma, a resident of Purok 6-B in Barangay 31-D. He was shot by PO1 Vicente Alderite Jr. of the Sta. Ana Police Station.

Eastern Mindanao Command's (Eastmincom) public information officer Captain Alberto Caber identified the rebel leader as Dominiciano Daungcay Muya, alias Marco and Atoy, a member of the NPA's Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) executive committee, with P4.8-million cash reward for his arrest based on Department of the Interior and Local Government's Joint Order 14-2012.

Army orders probe on killing of 2 civilians

EASTERN Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) chief Lt. General Aurelio B. Baladad ordered the Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division to look into the death of two civilians who were allegedly killed by troops belonging to 66th Infantry Battalion in New Bataan town in Compostela Valley.

The victims were identified as Lando Sabado Dangasan, 40, and his 16-year-old son Felix, both residents of Purok 7 at sitio Taytayan in Barangay Andap, New Bataan. The two were reportedly unarmed when the incident happened.

3 rebels' cadavers, 11 high-powered guns seized

THREE cadavers of the New People's Army (NPA) rebels and 11 high-powered firearms were recovered following the series of encounters between government troops and the rebels in Malita town in Davao Occidental.

Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division spokesperson Captain Ernest Carolina revealed Thursday there were two skirmishes that transpired in Malita last October 11 in the morning and another on October 14 in the afternoon.

Judge rejects murder suspect's bail petition

RTC Branch 10 Judge Retrina Fuentes, in an order dated October 13, has denied the petition for bail filed by respondent Rammil Galadin who is the suspect in the killing of Jessie Nuñez on August 23 last year.
