Army seizes bombs in fresh clash with NPA

TROOPS belonging to the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division recovered several improvised explosive devices and detonating materials after an encounter with New People’s Army (NPA) members Wednesday in a hinterland in Barangay Mandug in Davao City’s Buhangin District.

Captain Alberto Caber, Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) public information officer, said the soldiers under the command of the 72nd Infantry Battalion recovered improvised explosive devices (IED), blasting caps, detonating wires, and assorted ammunition for M60 machinegun at Sitio Fatima in Mandug.

CHR is agency to act on Danao ‘mauling’

AN OFFICIAL of the Task Force Davao has said that the alleged mauling of a Special Civilian Active Auxiliary (Scaa) member, accused of carnapping with frustrated homicide, by Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Senior Superintendent Vicente D. Danao will only be handled by the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).

TF Davao commander Colonel Macairog Alberto made the statement when he was asked about the accusation of Lita Cuizon, mother of the accused Floriano Cuizon, that the latter was allegedly mauled by Danao.

EO inked to form office for PWDs

IN ORDER to address the need to prioritize the concerns of the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), an executive order (EO) was signed by acting Davao City Mayor Paolo Duterte for the creation of the Interim Persons with Disabilities Office (IPDAO).

“The high number of PWDs considered as among the vulnerable sectors in the society that need the utmost attention from the government who should be afforded with favorable institutional environment to promote their general well-being,” Duterte said in his EO No. 34 which was signed last July 21.

No penal provision for dog law

NO PENALTIES were added to the “Davao City Adopt-a-Dog (DAD) Ordinance” so as not to discourage potential adopting individuals, said Councilor Karlo S. Bello.

Bello, the main author of the DAD ordinance, said in an interview with Sun.Star Davao that “the animal welfare act and the anti-rabies act shall apply to cover the responsibilities of dog owners to proper treatment and care of the dogs.”

MEMBERS of the Talomo Police Station are conducting investigations on two separate shooting incidents that killed a meat inspector of the City Veterinarian's Office (CVO) and hurt a tricycle driver in Davao City on Tuesday.

The first incident took place around 10:35 a.m. at Ortega Village in Bangkal where the victim was identified as Lina Balorio Jamora, 59, a meat inspector. Jamora succumbed to two gunshot wounds in her head and in her left palm.

Davao Region’s dengue cases decrease

THE Department of Health (DOH) Davao Region recorded 3,112 dengue cases as of July 14, a notable decrease from 6,410 dengue cases recorded on the same period last year.

Data showed that this is a 106 percent decrease from last year. Divene Hilario, senior health program officer of DOH, said that the cause of the decrease in dengue cases in the region was due to past interventions like the information education campaigns.
