NHA head leaves for Sweden

AN OFFICIAL of the National Housing Authority in Davao Region will leave for Sweden Sunday to attend the International Training Programme sponsored by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and conducted by Housing Development and Management at Lund University.

The training, slated September 2-27, is aimed to give professionals deeper knowledge and a wider frame of reference to help create long-term conditions to combat poverty through effective capacity and institutional development.

NHA, a major stakeholder in the housing development process, has endorsed Engineer Carolina Angel as one of the three delegates sent by the Philippines. The two others are from Metro Manila.

Carolina, a civil engineer by profession, is past president of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Davao City Chapter. She holds a Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of the Philippines - Mindanao. She taught part time at the UP Mindanao handling Special Problems in Housing. She is now licensed Environmental Planner.

She actively travels in the region to do lectures on urban poor housing for different local Government units strongly advocating for just and humane manner of relocation and ensuring that occupancy of urban poor is properly documented with the end in view of providing the final security of tenure and finally awarding them their individual land titles. In Davao City, she is also a dedicated member of the Technical Working group of the City’s Local Housing Board, Pricing Committee and the Task Force on Relocation and Resettlement.

The training will give her a chance to visit other places in Sweden to fully observe housing conditions.

A passionate tennis player, she has been voted by a large mandate from 14 tennis clubs in the Region to serve as Philta regional vice president for Region 11-B. (PR)
