Nierra tops Lanemasters for August

MANNY Nierra climbed his way from fifth place to clinch the Datba Lanemasters August Monthly Finals title at the NCCC Mall B3 Lanes over the weekend.

Nierra stunned twice-to-beat eliminations leader Sammy Talaboc in two games in their step-the-ladder championship showdown. Nierra received a cash prize of P3,000 while Talaboc took the P2,000 runner-up prize.

Third-placer Sonny Dimaano went home with P1,000 while next two placers Celso Garcia and Joe Daigdigan got P700 each in the meet organized by the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba).

Talaboc struck for at total of 1,268 pinfalls after six games to rule the eliminations followed by Dimaano (1,214), Garcia (1,208), Daigdigan (1,207) and Nierra (1,185).

Youth bowler Manuel "Man-Man" Nierra II, meanwhile, added another feather on his cap by hitting a total of 884 pinfalls after four games to capture the gold medal of the Datba Tenpin Weekly Singles Tournament at the NCCC Mall B3 Lanes Saturday night.

Nierra bested Janine and Michelle Kuwahara, who pocketed the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the weekly qualifying organized by the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba).

Janine rolled 845 pins while Michelle garnered 836.

Jojo Viroy placed fourth with 835 followed by Sammy Talaboc who made 813 pinfalls.

Nierra and Edwin Grasparil also won free meal tickets having hit five straight strikes in the tournament. (MLSA)
