Nograles to watch Pacman fight in US

HOUSE Speaker Prospero Nograles will definitely be going to Las Vegas this weekend to watch the fight of people's champ Manny Pacquiao against Miguel Cotto on November 15.

However, Nograles said he will be on an economy ticket charged to his frequent flier miles. His accommodation in Las Vegas will also be taken care of by his Dabawenyo friends there. He estimated his spending there to be just around $750 for his plane ticket.

Nograles will be flying together with Pacquiao's mom, Aling Dionisia, and expects the long haul flight to the US West Coast an enjoyable one by sitting beside the popular Dionisia.

"It's a long flight, I'll enjoy it more by sitting beside her because I will not even feel the air turbulence," Nograles said, referring to Aling Dionisia.

Aside from Nograles, several other lawmakers are expected to troop to Las Vegas this weekend to watch the boxing fight which can also be watched on same time here in the Philippines.

Nograles assured the public though that not one congressman is charging his Las Vegas trip to the House fund.

In the last fight of Pacquaio, at least 50 congressmen went with Nograles to Las Vegas to see Pacquiao's fight against Ricky Hatton.

Lawmakers have also been criticized for supposedly placing huge bets on the fight. Nograles said he would bet on Pacquiao but only to cover his airline economy ticket, which he estimated at $750.

In a check with Philippine Airlines website, an economy roundtrip fare to Las Vegas normally cost from $946 to $1,098. For business class, a roundtrip ticket would cost $4,116.

A room at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas where the fight will be held cost from as low as $90 per night to as high as $600.

Ticket cost of the boxing fight ranges from $400 to as much as $12,000 each depending on the location. (BOT)
