MUCH has been drummed up about responsible mining in the country, and yet time and again, we are met with news about this and that mining site collapsing, burying people, poisoning the land, flattening mountains.

FOR years on end, I tell students who still have that sparkle in the eyes over the glamorous job of journalism that this is really about telling the story. This is not about structures of the news, it is about the story.
I DO not like watching the news. It just stresses me out to find out about all the bad things that has happened during the day. It also pains me to learn about past negative concerns not being resolved.
MY FATHER passed away, last Wednesday. He was 88. This is the eulogy I delivered, more or less, at his funeral. The extra time gave me an opportunity to clean it up some more as well as rewrite some parts for better details and clarity:
