Welcome Director Gloria D. Benigno

DIRECTOR’S Cut: (This portion features the thoughts of DepED 11 Regional Director Susana Teresa B. At exactly 7:45 am today, Dr. Gloria D. Benigno will formally assume the post of Regional Director of the Department of Education Region XI in a formal turnover ceremony to be led by outgoing Regional Director Susana Teresa B. Estigoy who had just bowed out from government service effective October 10, this year.

Benigno will serve Region XI after her stint in Region XIII (CARAGA) and Region X, all in Mindanao.

Benigno is not a stranger in Davao Region as she spent most of her formative years in the region particularly in the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) where she spent her elementary and secondary education. She is also a proud alumna of the University of Mindanao (UM).

For the first time, she will be leading the weekly Flag Raising Ceremony and will tour the different offices in the region and the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) Region XI facilities. She will then conduct a meeting with the Chiefs of Divisions/Units/Sections in the region.

Meanwhile, Davao Region clinched another winner in the Metrobank Search for Outstanding Teachers 2012 in the person of Dr. Annie Rodriguez of the Philippine Science High School, Mindanao Campus here in Davao Region.

It was a three in a row feat for Davao Region as two other teachers won the same award in 2010 and 2011.

In his speech during the awarding ceremonies, Metrobank Foundation president Aniceto Sobrepena said that these extraordinary educators proved that the passion to nurture and teach young minds lives on amidst the challenges each of them faces every day.

Sobrepena continued that they could have chosen a different path, and for this, we commend the educators for their selfless dedication to the Filipino youth and inspirational for they have become educational innovators in their respective communities.

Sobrepena added that they embody the heart and soul of a Filipino educator, tirelessly committed to the pursuit of molding today’s generation. They were one in believing that there is indeed a glorious future for our nation which can be realized through education.

Based on the statistics available in their website, http://www.mbfoundation.org.ph, a total of 284 teachers were nominated to this year’s Search. They were trimmed down to 139 provincial finalists through documents review and were then reduced to 40 regional finalists who underwent interviews and teaching demonstrations before the members of the preliminary board of judges identified for each category. Twenty (20) of the regional finalists were then selected to become the national finalists.
