Editorial: We’re never out of the woods

-A A +A

THAT is what we should always remember as yet another improvised explosive device has been defused in Kidapawan City just behind the police headquarters, Sunday.

Before that, there were the bomb explosions in Tacurong City and Isuland in Sultan Kudarat.

We’re not stirring up fear and paranoia, here, we are just gently reminding everyone that out there, dark forces with dark intentions continue to lurk, moreso because it is an elections year.

As elections draw nearer and campaign period opens, there is always an increase in kidnappings, in bombings and in shootings. That is a fact we have to face.

Thus, it’s always to our best interest is we always stay vigilant.

We are just glad that in Davao City, people are quick to report any suspicious-looking and unattended boxes. This has been reported often, and although many times the explosive and ordnance team of the Central 911 find fruits, or garbage, or clothes, or parts of a water filtration system, we are glad that no one was stupid enough to open it without calling in the authorities. Yes, there will be more fruits and garbage and clothes and water filtration systems that will be left unattended in a box or in a plastic bag in the future. But there will also be a bomb.

Who knows what evil plans people and we can even add, politicians, hatch in their grim desire to rule and subjugate. One thing that has been proven through the years, however, is that the vigilance of our people matched with the good intentions and quick actions of authorities have kept our city relatively peaceful. Let us not allow the evil-doers to get the better of us.

Much as we bask in the peace and order of the city, we should never forget that this peace and order is what makes our city a prime target always of all those who have evil in their minds.

Again, we’re not trying to sow unnecessary fear, we are just urging caution and everyone’s vigilance.
