Editorial: Seeing them as they are-A A +A

LAWMAKERS being implicated in the pork barrel scam will remain in position unless convicted.
We huff and we puff and we fume, but they will remain in position, defiant to the end.
They are sure they will be vindicated, at least that is what they always say. Just as Senator Bong Revilla insists Janet Napoles is a fan and not a family friend. This despite several photos of family celebrations showing him with the woman who is in the middle of all this priority development assistance fund scandal.
The fact remains that Napoles is a private individual, ergo, cannot dip her fingers into public coffers without help from those who can access it.
Fingers are being pointed to chiefs of staff who are said to be the ones requesting and signing. But the senators are one in denying they are not aware of any such deals.
If we base it on comments and status updates on social networks, they are among the most unpopular senators today. But then, that’s social networking, and from last May 2013 elections results, we have come to realize that unpopularity in the social network need not mean corresponding reduction of votes.
Meaning, we need to do more than just rant on our social networking sites to bring real understanding and sow disgust about a system that is rotten through and through.
The biggest sin we can commit as a Filipino is when we will allow those implicated in stealing from the people’s coffers and their kith and kin to reign on election after election just because their family names have already become very familiar to us in the political sphere.
They can continue to hold on to their power because we cannot yank them off unless we use force. But we can deny them and their families their solid hold on politics by denying them our trust, our votes, and our respect. We are the people, we can do all that, especially to people who think they can fool the Filipinos all the time.
While we take time discerning who really deserve our trust, votes, and respect, let us also ponder on the people who are trying to gain political mileage in the Zamboanga crisis, they too do not deserve these.
