Effective, user friendly system. Saving numerous hours of manual work. An E-system for a hub to benefit schoolchildren who have access to it in the entire country. These and more are the projected benefits once the e-library system being developed by the Management Information Systems Office (MISO) of the Province of Laguna for the use of the Library Hub Project throughout the country will be materialized.
On November 25-29, 2013, a selected group of Library Hub enthusiasts mostly librarians who will be the ones who will the system attended a Consultative Workshop on the Development of Library Information System for the Department of Education (DepEd) Library Hub Coordinators to initially assist the developers to create a system that will be working for everyone.
Those who were invited to join the workshop were Donald T. Genine and Amelita C. Pitalgo, Region VI Regional Coordinators; Lorenzo E. Mendoza, Regional XI Coordinator; Sylvia D. Villanueva, Division Library Hub Coordinator from Northern Samar; Jelly L. Sore, Division Library Hub Coordinator from Marinduque; Melchor M. Famorcan, Division Coordinator from Romblon; Lorena S. Walangsumbat, Division Library Hub Coordinator from Quezon; Menchie V. Punzalan, Teacher-Librarian from Batangas; Shaila S. Takinan, Librarian from Ifugao; Ma. Fatima D. Frederick Zaide, Information Technology Supervisor of DepEd Division of Laguna and at the same time the Library Hub Coordinator of the said Division, was also present to facilitate and monitor the conduct of the activity.
The workshop aims to help the development of library information systems of library hubs nationwide. Likewise, it will make library functions like borrowing and returning of books electronic and paperless.
At the closing of the workshop, all the participants shared their comments about the system. Most comments were expression of satisfaction with the improved system. They said that it will make their works easier and faster.
It was agreed during the gathering that after further workshops, the Library Hub System will soon be implemented in all library hubs throughout the country.
The iSchool Library Management System (iLMIS), more known as the Library Hub System, was built in 2008 and was rolled-out since then to 2012. It was given to the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) and was implemented to over 960 schools nationwide.
Based on the report of Shairadelle R. Bermudez and Edward C. Aquino of the Province of Laguna, MISO had improved the Library Hub System and currently integrating the suggestions given by the participants to further improve the system before its final rollout early next year.
This corner hopes that the system will really be developed in due time to be used for the effective delivery of quality basic education in the country.
