Editorial: It’s the season, be safe.-A A +A
Sunday, December 22, 2013
IT’S the season to be jolly and some take this as the season to be drunk. While indeed the new speed limits motorists in Davao and the most you will get if involved in a traffic accident is a bruise or a contusion, we all know that to the drunks, speed limits are the least of their concerns.
There will be parties, there will be drinking, and there will be the drunks. It thus pays for motorists and pedestrians alike to keep that in mind and reduce further the injuries that normally happen during the Christmas season.
While the high cost of electricity may be reducing our use of Christmas lights, there are many Christmas lights these days that are so enticing not only because of their colorful tiny lights, but also of their cheap price. Again, be careful.
Cheap can easily mean low quality and low quality can spell the difference between a merry Christmas and losing the roof above our heads due to fire.
Never compromise safety for price. Always make sure that you are getting quality products that use electricity, or else it’s best to do without. Electricity is something we should never take for granted because it can easily turn our homes into ashes when we’re not looking.
Like in any day, safety should always be of prime concern. But in this season of revelry, many may be more reckless than we normally are. We’re not saying that we all live in paranoia and strip ourselves of the joy of living care free; we’re just saying that there is absolutely no reason to mourn nor suffer during the season of cheers just because we’ve had one too many, because our neighbor or an unknown motorist had one too many, or we were just so happy with the bargain we got, we never thought that in the process, we have compromised our safety. As we always do during any other day, let us always err on the side of caution more so in this season of cheers when accidents and misfortunes bring greater sadness than they’d normally would. Pasko pa naman, is an oft-repeated expression of sadness when misfortunes hit during the season.
Let us not contribute to any reason for anyone to say that this Christmas season.
