DIRECTOR’S Cut: (This portion features the thoughts of DepEd 11 Regional Director Gloria D. Benigno, CESO IV to all stakeholders and recipients of the efforts to improve the basic education) "I am your team leader, you are my team mates, together, let us work as a team”

From a forgettable 11th place finish in the Dumaguete City Palarong Pambansa, Team Davao Region with a strong showing from Elementary Level improved its standing in the Sta. Cruz, Laguna Edition of the annual summer games with an 8th place finish.

The impressive showing, though just above the half of the 17 regions, is already a marked improvement and a fitting tribute to the aspiration of retired Regional Director Gloria D. Benigno of a single digit finish in this year’s Palarong Pambansa and a good start for the vigorous campaign of Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo P. del Rosario and Tagum City Mayor Allan L. Rellon to host the 2015 Palarong Pambansa.

In my last week’s column, I have published the gist of RD Benigno’s speech during the Davraa 2014 for Davao Region to achieve a single digit overall ranking.

She said that the region needed to achieve the dream of achieving a single digit ranking that is why the region devised some ways as agreed by the members of the Davraa Board in order to attain it.

One of these measures is to start training right after the provincial or city meet and to identify on February 14, 2014 the qualified athletes so that right away, they would start their training for the palaro in their divisions or schools and it should be strategized by their superintendents as the athletes and students also need to still attend classes.

The director strongly urged that all the coaches who would be selected to represent Davraa in Palaro would focus on this activity and should not join other trainings this summer.

As the Palarong Pambansa ended on Saturday, it was proven that if there is a will, there is a way. It is now a challenge to Team Davao Region to even push more to climb to the top the ladder and to ultimately duplicate the Overall Champion finish it got during the Palarong Pambansa held in Lanao del Norte a few years back.

What we can do starting today is to focus in our bid to host the prestigious sporting event on Summer 2015 and to strategize different steps and measures to improve our standing in the coming years.

Together, let us make this happen!
