Don’t rant

FACEBOOK is where people rant, and oh they rant. I don’t. Uh, yes, sometimes. Very few times such that friends are eagerly awaiting the next rant. The last time they got one was late last year. It’s because I believe that ranting does not bring any good.

Of course, there are a gadzillion things and issues that are worth a rant, like the long rotational brownouts the past several weeks.

Guess what? In those long dark hours, I only experienced one four-hour wait at work that saw me traipsing to Fullybooked and getting bankrupt for the day, and two one-hour early morning discomforts at home, and that was only when the length of power interruption was increased to 6 hours.

Wait, there’s more! The two times power was shut down at home while I slept, it drizzled the night before, ergo, it wasn’t hot. The daytime brownouts too happened alternately. At home when I’m not and in the office when I’m home. I say, that was a very perfect order of things. The best order of things that came to be was when I was snatched out of Davao several times when the suffering worsened. I was in the airconned confines of hotels and offices in Manila and Cagayan de Oro when brownouts were increased to six hours, and I was enjoying my airconned hotel and pension house rooms in Tacloban when this reached 7.5 hours.

While most of my friends were ranting on Facebook, I was dumdidumduming my way to greater comfort. Brat!

Of course, all these are coincidences. I will not argue with anyone who says that. All I know is that I got lucky and I’m not complaining.

Lucky brat, some may say. I say it’s the aura you exude and the vibration you attract. Demand what you want, quietly, within yourself, and you will get it. Rant for all to read and hear, and you will get more of what you are ranting about. Many call it the Law of Attraction, I have long referred to it as “Just Being”.

Not that we are unaffected. We are. It’s the recognition that ranting doesn’t serve anything that puts things in perspective. As I have repeatedly taught my staff, a lesson they have now learned so well we are the quietest office there is when power is cut abruptly, ranting will not bring back a lost computer file. We might as well sleep. Thus, when all lights are turned off and computers shut down and with just the beeping of the UPS in select computers pervading the room, the staff would simply look around for places to settle down in to take a nap, or bring out their food to nibble on. No screams, no rants. Just acceptance and a focus on what other things can be done in the absence of power.

In that way, there is peace, and a peaceful environment brings more than peace in the soul. It fans enthusiasm, it spells fun.

Long before Law of Attraction became a byword by post-new age beatniks, the only Bible verse that I have memorized, believe in, and live as a mantra is Matthew 7:7.

The scary events of Revelations can go hang. Matthew 7:7 had long told us how to live, why worry about the four horsemen, the seven plagues, seven angels, and the great harlot, pray tell? saestremera@yahoo.com
