Positive vibes-A A +A

SINCE exploring the happy vibes with very good friends and partners-in-crime, I have had this longing to read anew Rene Descartes and his “I think therefore I am” spiel. Could he have been saying something else?
But I still have to make time. Between the loads of books I have hauled out from bookstores, both on sale and full-priced, reading through the seemingly endless meandering thoughts of a classical philosopher ranks somewhere near the doldrums.
Still, there is something about this I think therefore I am in our happy vibes goal.
Think happy thoughts, and you will be happy. Think gloomy thoughts and life will be gloomy. Think weeeeee, and you will go weeeeeee! Ad nauseum.
We’ve been practicing good vibes and so far, things have always been looking good. Actually, we’ve been practicing for years now, we are just perfecting it these days. Life for us, had always been a fun ride to adventures and more adventures. Bums, we have long called ourselves. But of course, very few believe us. We don’t care.
Except that, sometimes the world does throw you a curve ball. Like deciding to grab a quick lunch on a very busy day and ending up with the worst and slowest service ever, wasting almost your whole afternoon and making you rush to keep up with the afternoon’s schedule when earlier that day, everything was proceeding in a very leisurely manner.
We were determined not to let slow service get our good, we stood our ground but lost it when even serving the bill took a long, long time. Bummer.
The good vibes just flew of the window and you are tempted to curse. You didn’t, you simply addressed the cashier in an exasperated voice and glared at her assistant.
Off at one side, in a big group of youngish looking males and females, a foul-mouthed female was regaling her friends complete with a few crispy P-I. Poor girl, she didn’t get good breeding. But I surmised, that came with the territory. I just lost my cool, and so one of my pet peeves showed up, right beside me, as if to taunt me, the universe saying, “So, you are pissed, eh? here’s more reason to get pissed!”
We left and decided to be happy anew as we basked in astonishment at how our attention has been grabbed by owls. Yes, owls.
Actually, it started when buddy Kublai kidded me about my sketch of an owl, which he said looked like a flying tarsier. I went “hmp!” and continued drawing as I wanted my owl to look like. From then on, we’d somehow notice drawings of owls, decors of owls, and even a huge jar with an owl design.
It was telling us once more that “We think therefore we are.”
It has been said several times in so many different ways. But we would always choose the hard way. We’d rant and rave and carry our dark mood the whole day, consequently getting more reasons to be in a dark mood the whole day. We go to sleep still in a dark mood, by this time maybe even gritting our teeth in exasperation and we wake up to more bad luck.
Guess what? You brought it upon yourself. Make extra effort to cheer up, once you recognize that a misfortune, an irritant, or a pet peeve had just been thrown at you. If you can’t, then sleep or play with your toys or pets.
My computer monitor in the office has five plastic dragons balanced on it. They’re not taped, they’re not glued. They’re just there, ready to fall if you happen to hit one, but also ready to be picked up should I need to play.
Bums we are, and bums we will be, because that is all it takes to get the best from this life and this world.
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:26). I am, we are.
