Police told: Solve drug problem or be fired

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte has ordered the Lanang police to look into an allegation that a couple is peddling illegal drugs in Lanang or else they will be fired from their job.

Duterte was reacting to a letter sender who said Sunday that the couple who resides at Vincent Heights along Angliongto Avenue (Damosa) is peddling drugs in the area under the protection of policemen.

The mayor readily ordered the police to "solve the problem permanently."

"Do it. If you cannot do it, you get fired," Duterte said.

Based on information gathered from residents of the said subdivision, it was said the couple owns a carwash and eatery business.

Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, who also resides in Vincent Heights, said he does not know the couple but promised he would look into the allegation.

Meanwhile, two weeks after meeting with Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chief Leila de Lima, Duterte is still hoping and waiting for the commission to start its probe on the summary executions in the city.

The spate of killings is being blamed to the Davao Death Squad, a vigilante group.

Duterte said he is hoping that the CHR investigation would finally put to rest the accusations hurled against him and his administration of sponsoring the extra-judicial killings in the city.

"I hope and I pray na nay public hearing aron matapos na nang inyong biay-biay nako [that there will finally be a public hearing to put an end to all the attacks against me]," Duterte said.

He admitted that he is tough on criminals as this is how they should be dealt with. He reiterated his warning to criminals that Davao City is the most dangerous place for them at any given time.

"Kanang drug lord sa Asia nadakpan sa Manila nakagawas. Pero dinhi siya sa Davao dili siya makagawas ug buhi. Makalabas na pero naa na sulod sa lungon. Ingon ninyo extra-judicial na? Pwes, dal-on nako na sa huwes ug didto nako gulgulon o di dili na siya extra-judicial [A known drug lord in Asia was arrested in Manila but was freed. Here in Davao, you can't go out alive. You can go out, but inside a coffin. Is that what you call extra-judicial killing? Then I will just bring a drug lord to a judge and kill him there, that will no longer be extra-judicial]," Duterte said. (BOT)
