Prank text message causes alarm

A PRANK text message allegedly coming from Davao City's 911 Emergency Action Center circulated in the city Sunday, causing alarm among the Dabawenyos.

The text message read "911 on high alert! Reported bomb around Davao City, be vigilant and please be careful -- from 911."

In his reaction, Davao City Police Director Ramon Apolinario said they are now verifying the report.

Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) spokesman, Major Randolph Cabangbang, meanwhile said they have no significant information on the bomb threat.

"However, that is the nature of 911 work, always on alert," Cabangbang said.

A military intelligence officer said Davao City has long been the target of bomb attacks. The officer admitted they received a terrorist plot report, but he can’t divulge the details of the information.

Lawrence "Bong" Go, speaking in behalf of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, denied truth on the text message, saying it would be best if the people will remain vigilant at all times.
