ISLAND Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS) bet Oberio Aglipay finished second to Jerich Cajeras, who captured the kiddies title at the close of the 16th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championships 2008 Grand Finals at the Events Center, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City Sunday.
Cajeras tallied eight points to pocket the P20,000 top purse while Aglipay, a student at the Nieves Villarica National High School, garnered 7.5 points settled for the P15,000 runner-up prize in the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP)-sanctioned meet.

Jan Nigel Galan placed third with 6.5 points followed by Jeremiah Alfonso in fourth with 5.5 points. Both who went home with P10,000 and P7,500, respectively.
Christian Nanola received P5,000 for his fifth place finish. He got superior tiebreak over fellow five-pointers Jan Jodilyn Fronda, Austin Jacob Literatus of Don Juan dela Cruz Central Elementary School in Toril, Davao City, Vince Angelo Medina, Noel Vincent Crucero and Marg Gabrielle Balbona.
Davao's Jose Maria College (JMC) player Danilo Engay Jr., who earned 4.5 points, landed at 11th place, while Jeazzir Kline Surposa of General Santos City was occupied the 14th place with four points in the category that drew a total of 22 qualifiers.
In the junior side, Nelson Mariano III bested fellow seven-pointer Sherwin Tiu via the tiebreak to bag the P30,000 champion's prize. The latter settled for the runner-up prize of P20,000.
Paulo James Flores came in third with 6.5 points for the P15,000 prize, while six-pointers Joel Pimentel and John Ranel Morazo took the next two spots with six points each. Pimentel won P10,000 while Morazo had P7,500.
Gerald Ferriol made 5.5 points for sixth place while Sheider Nebato of General Santos City, Patrick Erle Florendo, Holy Cross of Davao College's Mohammad Sacar and Joseph Mari Turqueza completed the top 10 with identical five points.
Rogationist Academy of Davao's Neptali Batucan III was at number 12 with 4.5 points, while 3.5 scorers JMC bet Jester Andoy and University of Mindanao's Adrian Dimakiling placed 17th and 18th, respectively.
