Cagers picked for SKC Awards

THE 2011 National Prisaa Collegiate Games women's basketball and 2011 Palarong Pambansa secondary girls basketball teams, which both captured gold medals, have been nominated to receive citations in the 17th So Kim Cheng Sports Awards Night slated July 22.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) assistant city commissioner Rico Jhone Biliran bared this in text messages to Sun.Star Davao Tuesday.

Biliran said SBP Davao City also nominated outstanding male and female athletes for basketball as approved by regional director Regino "Boy" Cua.
The University of Mindanao women's team of coach Crisanthemum "Ining" Sarabia won for Southern Mindanao the championship in the Games held in Zamboanga City in April. Sarabia was also nominated for a citation as a champion coach.
Davao Region's secondary girls basketball squad, meanwhile, ruled its division in the Palaro held in Dapitan City in May. The team was bannered by players from Ateneo de Davao High, Sta. Ana National High School, Assumption School of Davao and Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School with coach Daniel Colango at the helm.
Holy Child School of Davao's Christopher Gavia and UM's Karen Cataluna were nominated for outstanding male and female athletes for basketball, respectively.
Philippine Federation of Body Builders (PFBB) vice-president for Mindanao Ben Sur, also president of the SKC Awards organizer Davao City Sports Council Inc. (DCSCI), cited national welterweight champion Eliaquim Balbero as outstanding male athlete for bodybuilding.
"Balbero was also Mr. Davao and Mr. Kadayawan but he won't qualify for the male athlete of the year award," Sur said.
The DCSCI's nomination and selection committee was set to meet Tuesday night to finalize the list of awardees.
