The North Face Great Camp-out set in Digos

A GRAND adventure and family bonding await participants of The North Face Great Camp-out that will kick off on October 8 and 9 at the Mount Apo Highland Resort in Kapatagan, Digos, Davao del Sur.

Mt. Everest 2006 summiteer Erwin "Pastour" Emata bared this in a media lunch briefing at the Ah Fat III Seafood Plaza Monday.

"This outdoor camp-out was designed for children to pair with their parents for fun-filled adventure race where they will go through conceptual and actual learning courses," Emata said.

Kid participants will be taught basic tent pitching, cooking and backpacking, among others.

The adventure race will get them to apply what they have learned in the course.

The team that finishes the series of challenges first, without any penalty or infractions, will be declared champion. The champion team will represent the region to an all-expense-paid trip for five to another camp-out in Mt. Pulag sometime in January or February next year.

Challenges in the adventure race include water toss, puzzle, knot tying, tent pitching, biking, 3-legged race and backpacking events.

"Children of this generation are hooked on computer games and television, depriving them the experience of genuine family bonding. This activity will bring the kids to experience nature and genuine family bonding," Emata said.

Interested participants will just have to present P3,500 worth of purchase of any The North Face kids items and products to be able to join. No fee is required but only the first 20 registrants who can present the P3,500 worth of purchase will be accommodated.

Those who will miss the cut can still join by presenting an accumulated purchase receipts of P6,000 of any The North Face products.

Organizers encourage participants to sign up early as slots are limited.

Dax Ang said they have reserved slots for VIPs including those in the government, academe, business and religious sectors.

A standby medical team from the Rescue 911 of Davao City, marshals and security personnel will be provided for the campers' safety.
