Over 1,000 players join cage try-outs

OVER 1,000 players joined the first round of Trip Ko Phoenix Fuels Basketball Cup try-outs held at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center (DCRC).
Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. marketing supervisor Neb Bulaclac said coaches trimmed the number to 300.

"The final cut of 120 players will be known this weekend. It's a very rigorous process that the draftees have to go through. They will have to undergo another set of drills and games for coaches to determine the final roster," he told Sun.Star Davao in a phone conversation on Monday.
He assured a high level of competition in the third season of the league considering the tedious drafting process.
He added, "We are looking forward to discover more promising talents this season with the presence of school-based and out-of-school youths."
The players and coaches will be grouped into eight teams that will carry Phoenix Fuels brands including Cyclomax Titan, Cyclomax 4T, Zoelo Extreme, Zoelo Diesel, Accelerate Vega, Accelerate Supreme, Cycle Fork and 2T Max.
Participants of the league will receive free jerseys and allowances for practice and actual games.
They will also train under veteran coaches who used to have stints in professional and commercial leagues.
