11 cage teams to join invitational

ELEVEN teams have been invited to join the Duterte Basketball League-Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. (DBL-Phoenix) 36-Above Invitational Basketball Tournament that will unfurl on January 28 at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) city commissioner lawyer Marvin "Oying" Melodias bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn Thursday.

Melodias said seven teams have confirmed their participation, including the Vice Mayor's Office, General Services Office (GSO), Goldstar Hardware, BLBE, Topp Agro, Anflocor and Philippine National Police (PNP) Selection.

He also said Montaña Pawnshop, Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), and Igacos selection may also sign up in the cagefest sanctioned by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Mindanao Cluster B director Regino "Boy" Cua.

"We are very happy to announce that the Duterte Basketball League is back. The 36-above tournament is just one of the many events that the DBL is planning to hold this year," Melodias said.

The tournament, which is a joint effort of Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc., SBP Davao City, Almendras Gym DCRC, SBP Mindanao Cluster B and Vice Mayor's Office, will be played on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays until March 28.

Teams will play the single round-robin format in the eliminations where the top four teams will enter the semi-finals en route to the championship.

Registration fee is P10,000 per team inclusive of uniforms and officiating fees.
