Davao aims for No. 1 on Prisaa nationals
Friday, January 20, 2012
THE Davao City Private Schools Athletic Association (DC-Prisaa) Meet had just opened on Friday but the group's top official urged athletes and coaches to aim for the overall championship in the upcoming Prisaa National Collegiate Games in Cebu City.
DC-Prisaa president Mo. Assumpta David, RVM, in her speech, said: "We shall only take the No. 1 spot in Cebu and not No. 2."

Her bold statement elicited cheers and applause from some 300 delegates of athletes, coaches and officials from 16 participating schools who attended the opening rites at the newly-rehabilitated University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) Bonifacio Gym.
David is also the president of the Davao Region Prisaa that finished second over-all in the national finals in Zamboanga City last year.
In women's basketball, the Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) drew first blood by toying with the hapless Davao Doctors College, 95-19, Friday afternoon.
Highly touted Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings crushed STI College in men's pre-opening basketball match held last weekend at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina Gym.
The Kings were leading, 44-0, when STI surrendered and didn't finish the game.
The DMMA College of Southern Philippines, for its part, defeated Brokenshire College via default while Mats College of Technology clobbered UM Guianga in a lopsided win.
Other basketball matches were still ongoing as of press time.
Games at UM Matina Gym today pit Brokenshire against UM Main at 9 a.m., women's defending champion UM Cardinals against DDC at 10:30 a.m., UM Guianga vs Agro Sailors at 1 p.m., STI vs. HCDC Crusaders at 2:30 p.m. and DMMA vs DDC at 4 p.m.
Volleyball, baseball, softball, boxing, taekwondo, sepak takraw, chess, table tennis, swimming, athletics, dancesports, judo, badminton and football events will go full blast in separate venues today, Saturday.
The tennis team competition between University of Mindanao and Brokenshire, however, will go straight to the championship match on Sunday at the Eco 4 Tennis Club courts.
